Scavenging blog has shots of Berkeley’s Brower Center, a soon-to-open building that is “the world’s biggest scavenged building.” Scavenged meaning more or less the same as “salvaged,” although without the say interminably hip connotation, i.e. “salvaged wood” anything. According to the site, 53 percent of the building’s construction material is recycled, and it should end up getting LEED Platinum certified. Table: made from old wine vat planks. Concrete walls: 70 percent slag. Toilets: flushed with urine-colored rainwater. Greener than thou: priceless.
